We have all been there. Those moments of utter desperation when lengthy prayers are whittled down to one word statements. Maybe it is a moment of crisis prior to the impact of an automobile crash, a devastating health scenario, or a relationship failure. Our gut has nothing to offer except, “Jesus. Help.” Thank God those words are not just enough, they are more than enough.
The power that exists not only in the person of Jesus, but in His Name, cannot be glossed over. The book of Isaiah gives us some of the most compelling prophecies regarding the Messiah. These prophecies were fulfilled in the divine person of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. One such description is found in Isaiah 49:6 NKJV which reads, “Indeed He says, ‘Is it too small a thing that You should be My Servant, To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give you as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.'” God was referring to His Servant as someone with a much higher purpose than just rescuing the captive, exiled Jewish nation from the Babylonians. This Servant would be a light to the Gentiles (non-Jews) and God’s salvation for the entire earth. John 8:12 reveals who this light is-Then Jesus spoke to them again saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” Paul and Barnabas also quote Isaiah 49:6 in Acts 13:47 while speaking to the Gentiles in Antioch who were begging to hear the Word preached to them. The word salvation gives great insight into the explanation of Isaiah 49:6. Noah Webster gives us a common understanding of this word. He defines it as thus: the act of saving; preservation from destruction, danger, or great calamity. Strong’s Concordance gives us the Hebrew name and interpretation of salvation #3444 in the context of Isaiah 49:6 expressing something saved, deliverance, aid, victory, prosperity, HELP, health, welfare. My study Bible refers to this word salvation, “Deliverance from distress and the resultant victory and well-being.” But what is the Hebrew word #3444? Yshuwah pronounced yesh-oo-aw. Strong’s Concordance goes further to reveal that many personal names contain a form of the root of this name, such as Jesus ( a Greek form of yeshuah). In essence, if we were to read the original writings, yshuwah ( the root of the Name of Jesus), would have replaced the word salvation. Salvation is the meaning of the word that corresponds to His Name. We could read the latter part of the verse, “That You should be My yshuwah (My Jesus) to the ends of the earth.”
Since the Messiah, Jesus Christ fulfilled this prophecy as our salvation, we can be confident in those moments when we need deliverance from deep distress with the resultant victory and well-being, all we need is to cry out His Name. “Jesus. HELP.” This Name gives deliverance, aid, victory, prosperity, HELP, health, and welfare. And it is God who refers to the Name as My yshuwah-My salvation. And just like that, He is an ever present HELP in time of need. Powerful Name? Yes indeed. Praying His Name alone or ending each prayer in His Name will ensure His HELP for your every need.
